Hobby Horse Farm

15 Oct

Hobby_Horse_Farm

This is that place on a farm where old junk is stored. The
plastic hobby horse glowed from the sunshine behind it as it
galloped through the trees. The window made a great
counterpoint catching the reflections of the sky and trees.

Plein Air Painters of the South Coast

Cam 2014 Plein Air Painters Show

I have three paintings showing in the Coos Art Museum’s “Plein Air Painters of the South Coast” in the Clare Wehrle Community Gallery.  This is a great opportunity for me to display my art with my painting buddies as well as regional artists that I have yet to meet.  The wonderful scenery and near perfect weather of the south coast of Oregon have made for a high concentration of  very talented plein air artists.  Coos Art Museum is very encouraging to local artists by providing this wonderfully professional space and promoting our work.

The Coos Art Museum is located at 235 Anderson Avenue, Coos Bay, Oregon, 97420.  coosart.org

Cape Arago’s unusual rocky land structure with its many coves, inlets and rock formations gives a painterly setting for the lighthouse.  A light fog bank approaches to color the scene.

Face Rock Fog

It is amazing how little wisps of fog can change a scene by hiding huge structures and throwing light and color around.  As we were walking Bandon’s beach at sunset, the fog moved across the Kittens and then Face Rock, changing the colors of the sunset and beach reflections.  The feeding gulls remained a constant, anchoring the scene.

Yellow Mountain

The yellow gold of evening light in autumn changes the colors of those things that it touches as well as the shadows. I painted this valley last October plein air,  mid-day and was discouraged when the interesting clouds turned to rain and dulled the colors of the scene.  I repainted it recently changing the sky to yellow, suggesting higher mountains and let that set the tone for adjustments to the rest of the painting.
