King Tide

5 Jan

The dramatic king tide covers the beach and crashes against the rocks and cliff at Coquille Point in Bandon. This painting, originally painted in 2016, was reworked to decrease the size of the foreground rock and make the incoming wave more dramatic.  I like working in media that allow me to rework a painting, sometimes years later, to bring it to a better finish.  Here, the UART sanded paper was very receptive to brushing off color and adding more layers of soft pastel.

Devil’s Kitchen

This view of Devil’s Kitchen and Crooked Creek is a favorite plein air painting spot as it is sheltered from the wind.

Pink Foam

Evening tinted pink foam floated in on the storm tidies at Bandon Beach.

Purple Beach

Light diffused through the coastal mist at sunset, painting the beach in purple, lavender and orange.  Bandon, Oregon’s iconic Face Rock and Kittens sit on the horizon.

Battery Point Lighthouse

This view of Crescent City’s lighthouse is from the north at the lookout at Brother Jonathan Park.  The mountains and strips of fog seem to surround Battery Point Island in a crescent, protecting the lighthouse as the ocean waves batter the rocks.
