Coquille Point in Bandon is a great place to view Elephant Rock and the Pacific, especially at high tides. This King Tide almost  covered the beach. The various inlets, tunnels, rocks and wide beach make for interesting wave patterns.

Coquille Point in Bandon, Oregon, is a great place to view Elephant Rock, especially at sunset.  The low clouds block and disperse the sunset colors across the water, rocks and wet beach creating a scene that begs to be painted.

Coquille Point Sunset

Sometimes things just line up. Here we have sea stack rock
formations, setting sun, clouds, ocean waves and mist all in
the right place. As I spend many evenings walking on the
beach, I am gaining some appreciation for those ancient people
who built Stonehenge. This was painted from reference photos
that were taken October 1st. Now in December, the sun is
setting much to the left, or more south.
I am finding that soft pastels work well for capturing the
blues, yellows and oranges of a sunset without mixing and
making the sky green and gray.
