Baldwin Cypress

18″ x 12″

The Baldwin Cypress is a historical tree in Bandon, Oregon.  It was planted in 1896 by Henry Hewitt Baldwin, one of the city’s founders.  The fire of 1936 scorched it, but it stands today overhanging Ocean Drive.  We drive under it on our way down to Old Town Bandon.  It reminds me of a bonsai tree.  The cypress limbs break easily during the coastal storms requiring trimming which helped create its elegant bonsai shape.
